Ground subsidence and land slides cause the geologic substrate to fail occasionally in California. When it happens, the results are sudden and devastating.

Landscape architects need to understand geologic risks of development and work to design solutions that minimize catastrophic impacts. As licensed professionals in California, landscape architects have a duty to protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.
